Digital twin for the virtual commissioning of machines and installations, Schmersal presents 4D models of safety components |
SCHMERSAL
These include the digital twin of the AZM40 safety interlock, the DHS door handle system and the BDF40 control box. These 4D models are not limited to reproducing the geometry of components in three dimensions: they add a fourth dimension, that of behavior under real conditions. Components such as the AZM40 security interlock are fully digitally replicated and behave in virtual space exactly like their physical counterparts. Thanks to the virtual representation of signal flows and control sequences, it is possible to simulate complete machine processes as close as possible to reality.
Virtual commissioning, the key to efficiency
One of the main advantages of 4D models is the possibility to virtually commission machines and installations - even before they are physically built. This allows early detection of errors, optimizes development processes and reduces costs. It is particularly important to highlight the possibility of connecting these 4D models directly to real control systems, such as those of Beckhoff or Siemens. In this way, installation settings and control programs can be tested and optimized before the actual commissioning.
Simulate in a standardized way: Schmersal relies on FMU models
Among the new features is the availability of behavior models in FMU (Functional Mock-up Unit) form. This allows standardized integration in different simulation environments such as Siemens Simit, the 3DS 3DEXPERIENCE platform or ISG-virtuos. The FMU version of the AZM40 has already been successfully implemented. The interchangeability and reuse of models are thus significantly improved - a decisive step for the scalability of digital twins in the industry.
AZM40 opens a digital catalog of models in the TwinStore
Similarly, the 4D model of the AZM40 was published and made available as the first Schmersal component in the "TwinStore" - an online store for prefabricated and directly ready-to-use 4D simulation models. The publication of the AZM40 as the first TwinStore package marks the beginning of a successive expansion of the digital model catalog of the Schmersal Group.
